지속가능관광 지방정부협의회 부회장을 맡고 있는 손배찬 파주시장이 국회를 찾아 지속가능관광 활성화를 위한 「관광진흥법」 개정안의 조속한 통과를 촉구했다.

파주시에 따르면 손배찬 시장은 지난 24일 국회 문화체육관광위원장실을 방문해 ‘지속가능관광도시 지정 및 지원’ 제도 도입의 필요성을 설명하고, 국회 차원의 적극적인 심의와 법안 통과를 요청했다.

이날 면담에는 지속가능관광 지방정부협의회 상임회장인 김보라 안성시장과 김제선 대전 중구청장, 손배찬 파주시장이 참석했으며, 이재정 국회 문화체육관광위원장과 김재원 국회의원 등을 만나 관련 법안의 조속한 처리를 건의했다.

이번에 논의된 「관광진흥법」 개정안은 지난 2025년 5월 29일 발의돼 현재 국회에 계류 중인 법안으로, 지속가능관광도시 지정과 성과 평가, 행정·재정적 지원 등에 대한 법적 근거를 마련하는 내용을 담고 있다.

손 시장은 “파주시는 이미 지난 2021년 관련 조례를 제정하고 지속가능관광을 지역 관광정책의 핵심 과제로 추진해 왔다”며 “지속가능관광이 더욱 탄력을 받기 위해서는 「관광진흥법」에 명확한 제도적 근거가 마련되고 국가 차원의 정책적·재정적 지원이 뒷받침돼야 한다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “파주시 역시 지속가능관광 지방정부협의회 부회장 도시로서 제도의 조기 안착과 정책 확산을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
