고양특례시가 대한민국을 넘어 세계적인 인공지능(AI) 중심도시로 도약하기 위한 본격적인 유치전에 돌입했다.

고양시는 25일 오전 국회의원회관 제2소회의실에서 ‘고양시 UN 글로벌 AI 허브 유치 선언식’을 열고 UN 글로벌 AI 허브 유치를 위한 공식 행보를 시작했다고 밝혔다.

이날 선언식에는 민경선 고양특례시장을 비롯해 한준호·김영환·이기헌 국회의원, 김미수 고양시의회 의장, 경기도의회 의원, 한국항공대학교 총장, 명지병원 이사장, 국립암센터 원장 등 주요 기관 관계자와 시민대표 등이 참석했다.

참석자들은 고양시가 국제적인 AI 협력 거점으로 성장할 수 있는 도시 경쟁력을 공유하고, UN 글로벌 AI 허브 유치를 위해 민관이 힘을 모으겠다는 의지를 밝혔다.

고양시는 유치 경쟁력으로 국제회의와 전시 역량을 갖춘 킨텍스를 비롯해 GTX-A 등 광역교통망, 일산테크노밸리를 중심으로 한 첨단산업 기반을 꼽았다. 

여기에 의료·교육 인프라와 풍부한 도시 인프라를 결합해 AI 기술을 실제 도시 생활에 적용하는 ‘글로벌 AI 실증도시’로 발전할 수 있다는 점도 강조했다.

특히 UN 글로벌 AI 허브가 다수의 국제기구와 다자개발은행 등이 참여하는 국제협력 플랫폼이라는 점에서 국제회의 개최 역량과 접근성, 산업·의료·교육 기반을 두루 갖춘 고양시가 최적의 입지라는 것이 시의 설명이다.

UN 글로벌 AI 허브는 AI 윤리와 국제표준 마련을 비롯해 전문인력 양성, 디지털 정부 정책 연구, 전 지구적 난제 해결 등을 위한 국제협력의 거점 역할을 수행하는 것을 목표로 한다.

시는 오는 9월 7일 범시민추진위원회 발대식을 열어 시민사회와 전문가, 관계기관 등이 참여하는 폭넓은 지지 기반을 구축할 계획이다. 

이어 9월 중에는 국제기구 유치 전략과 실행 방안을 논의하는 전문가 포럼을 개최한다.

또한 국제기구 및 관련 전문가들과의 협력을 확대하고 시민사회와 산업계, 학계 등 각계각층의 참여를 이끌어내며 유치 역량을 지속적으로 강화할 방침이다.

Goyang City announced that it held the ‘Goyang City UN Global AI Hub Bid Declaration Ceremony’ on the morning of the 25th at the 2nd Conference Room of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building, marking the official start of its efforts to attract the UN Global AI Hub.
