파주시는 지난 14일 임진각 쌍둥이 소녀상 앞에서 ‘2026년 일본군 위안부 피해자 기림의 날 기념행사’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 일본군 위안부 피해자들의 아픔을 기억하고 평화와 인권의 가치를 되새기기 위해 마련됐으며, 손배찬 파주시장과 윤후덕 국회의원, 최유각 파주시의회 의장을 비롯해 청소년재단 등 유관기관·단체 관계자와 시민 등 100여 명이 참석했다.

행사에 앞서 피해 할머니들의 생전 모습과 증언을 담은 초상전이 열려 참석자들이 피해자들의 삶과 아픔을 돌아보는 시간을 가졌다.

기념식에서는 헌화와 기념사에 이어 평화의 소녀상 선언문 낭송과 추모 공연 등이 진행됐다.

특히 청소년들이 직접 준비한 공연과 포토존, 노란 나비 열쇠고리 제작 체험 등 다양한 부대행사가 마련돼 시민들이 역사적 의미를 되새기고 평화와 인권의 가치를 함께 생각하는 계기가 됐다.

손배찬 파주시장은 “기억은 과거에 머무는 것이 아니라 더 나은 미래를 만드는 힘”이라며 “피해자들의 아픔과 용기를 기억하고, 평화와 인권의 가치가 미래 세대에 온전히 이어질 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
