파주시는 지난 12일 ‘2026 파주시 지속가능발전대학’ 개강식을 열고 시민 주도의 지속가능발전 실천을 위한 교육에 본격적으로 들어갔다.

파주시지속가능발전협의회가 주관하는 이번 교육은 시민들이 지속가능발전의 가치를 일상생활과 지역 현장에서 직접 실천할 수 있도록 돕고, 지속 가능한 미래 도시 파주를 이끌어갈 지역 리더를 양성하기 위해 마련됐다.

교육은 오는 26일까지 총 10강으로 진행되며, 매주 수요일과 금요일 오후 조리읍 행정복지센터 다목적강당에서 열린다. 

시민 53명이 참여해 지속가능발전에 대한 전문적인 교육과 토론을 이어간다.

수강생들은 분야별 전문가 강의를 통해 지속가능발전의 기본 개념을 비롯해 사회·환경·경제 분야의 주요 과제를 학습하고, 제도와 협치(거버넌스)에 대해서도 살펴본다. 

특히 파주의 지역적 특성을 반영한 지속가능발전지표를 중심으로 지역 현안을 이해하고 실천 방안을 모색할 예정이다.

이성렬 파주시지속가능발전협의회 상임회장은 개강식에서 “이번 지속가능발전대학은 시민들이 지속가능발전의 의미를 함께 배우고 지역 현장에서 실천할 수 있는 힘을 기르는 뜻깊은 과정”이라며 “수강생 여러분이 배움과 실천의 주체로서 의미 있는 역할을 해주시길 바란다”고 말했다.

파주시는 이번 교육을 통해 양성된 지역 리더들이 향후 파주시지속가능발전협의회 분과위원회 활동 등과 연계해 지역의 다양한 공론장과 현장 활동에 적극 참여할 수 있도록 지원할 계획이다.

이를 통해 시민 중심의 지속가능발전 실천 네트워크를 지속적으로 확대하고, 지역사회 구성원들이 직접 참여하고 변화를 만들어가는 지속가능발전 교육과 실천 활동을 더욱 강화해 나간다는 방침이다.
