파주시 야당동 향나무숲이 주민들의 일상 속 휴식과 소통을 위한 생활밀착형 도심 녹색 쉼터로 새롭게 단장돼 오는 9월부터 본격 개방된다.

파주시는 야당동 94-10번지 일원에 위치한 ‘야당동 향나무숲’ 조성 사업을 성공적으로 마무리하고, 오는 9월부터 주민들이 자유롭게 이용할 수 있도록 개방한다고 밝혔다.

야당동 향나무숲은 오랜 시간 지역 주민들의 추억과 애정이 깃든 공간으로, 파주시는 기존 숲이 지닌 자연친화적 가치를 최대한 보존하면서 주민 편의와 공동체 활동 기능을 강화하는 데 중점을 두고 정비 사업을 추진했다.

이번 사업을 통해 숲에는 가족 단위 방문객들이 편안하게 머물 수 있는 잔디광장이 새롭게 조성됐으며, 소규모 문화행사와 공연 등을 열 수 있는 야외 음악회 무대도 마련됐다.

파주시는 오는 9월 12일 향나무숲 현장에서 운정4동 주민자치회 행사와 연계해 준공식을 개최할 예정이다.
