연일 기록적인 폭염이 이어지는 가운데 파주시가 산업현장 근로자들의 온열질환과 안전사고 예방을 위해 현장 대응을 한층 강화하고 있다.

파주시는 지난 5일 고양노동지청과 함께 파주연천축협 종합청사 신축 공사현장을 찾아 폭염 대응 및 산업안전 관리 실태를 합동 점검했다고 밝혔다.

이번 점검은 8월 ‘노동안전의 날’ 활동의 일환으로 마련됐다. 

파주시 노동안전지킴이를 비롯한 관계자 8명이 참여해 건설현장 내 폭염 대응체계와 근로자 안전관리 실태를 집중적으로 살폈다.

합동점검팀은 특히 폭염에 따른 온열질환 예방조치가 현장에서 제대로 이행되고 있는지를 중점적으로 확인했다. 

충분한 휴식시간이 보장되고 있는지, 근로자들이 쉽게 이용할 수 있도록 시원한 물이 비치돼 있는지 등을 비롯해 그늘막과 휴게시설 운영 상태, 무더위 시간대 작업 조정 여부 등을 꼼꼼히 점검했다.

이와 함께 근로자들의 보호구 착용 상태와 작업장 내 위험요인 관리 등 기본적인 산업안전관리 실태도 함께 확인하며 사고 발생 가능성을 사전에 차단하는 데 주력했다.

파주시는 이번 합동점검을 계기로 폭염이 지속되는 동안 노동안전지킴이를 적극 활용해 건설현장 등에 대한 점검과 계도 활동을 강화할 계획이다. 

단순한 현장 점검에 그치지 않고 폭염 상황에 맞는 안전수칙 준수와 작업환경 개선을 지속적으로 유도한다는 방침이다.

조우현 파주시 기업지원과장은 “폭염은 산업현장 근로자는 물론 장시간 야외에서 활동하는 이동노동자에게도 심각한 건강 위협이 될 수 있다”며 “현장에서 실질적으로 작동할 수 있는 폭염 대응책을 지속적으로 추진해 근로자의 생명과 건강을 보호하겠다”고 말했다.

파주시는 건설현장 근로자뿐 아니라 폭염에 장시간 노출되는 이동노동자를 위한 보호대책도 함께 추진하고 있다.

현재 야당동과 금촌동에 마련된 이동노동자쉼터 2곳은 24시간 연중무휴로 운영되고 있으며, 쉼터 이용자들에게 생수와 온열질환 예방 물품을 무상으로 제공하고 있다.
